Found this snake in NE Ohio in lightly wooded area. It was ~2.5 feet long, 1.5 " wide. Didn't get a close look-didn't want to startle it during dinner. Can you ID it???

Hi,

It's a Garter snake, I'll leave it to someone more knowledgable to tell you which sub-species  (they might even be able to ID the toad )

I'd say an Eastern Garter Snake, Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis.

Although i'm not very experienced on American Snakes, it is what I believe it to be.

It is indeed an Eastern Garter Snake, Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis.

@ djp_phillips There are (currently) 37 distinct Thamnophis species and a similar number of sub-species.
